Several minor things also contributed to this decision. With a collaborative format, we can simply release the pack with no extra work required. There’s a surprising amount of behind the scenes work that goes into running a contest, and we seem to have less free time to work on it every year. Third, shifting gears away from being a contest makes it easier on us to host the event. We hope this will inspire more people to submit new multiplayer maps. ![]() With the contest aspect gone, multiplayer maps will always be released in the pack they were built for. We addressed this by holding maps back from release in OLDC packs until they had another map to compete against, but this means submitters would have to wait a minimum of 6 extra months before their map would be released, and we ended up with a few maps that waited well over a year. Multiplayer has simply not been as popular to make maps for as single player, so submissions for match, CTF, circuit, etc often ended up with no maps to compete against. Second, this solves a long-standing issue we’ve been running into with submissions for the multiplayer categories. There aren’t any winners or losers anymore, just a bunch of cool people making maps. To conclude each level you have a time limit. Each one will require a different control of the ball, so you must show that you are the best in all fields. Throughout the levels you will find various types of surfaces: ice, glass, water, sand, synthetic surfaces, etc. eye! The greater the number of points you accumulate, the larger your marble will be and therefore more difficult to control and push along the paths and labyrinths. ![]() In addition to the traps that populate each level, you will also have to fight against other marbles controlled by artificial intelligence that will try to hinder you, and against elements that will alter the normal physical behavior of your marble, such as trampolines, wind currents, swirls, etc. Marble Arena is an intricate, labyrinthine and absorbing arcade, with scenarios designed entirely in 3D, in which we have to guide a marble through convoluted levels, bypassing all kinds of obstacles, ramps and dangers until finding the exit of the level. ![]()
